Design By Nature. is Irelands premier wildflower seed house and has over 15
years inspired a generation of Irish gardeners to grow wild plants and help
protect over 200 species of native flora. Its our business Mission,
Conservation Grade is a descriptive term to describe how native Irish
wildflower seed is produced.
Conservation grade seed describes a traditional or sustainable industry (often
cottage) where the working practices are described as traditional handcrafted &
'Nature Friendly' and where the origin of the materials used are guaranteed.
All our crops are grown from native Irish sources, so our seed is suitable for
nature conservation projects.
There is no other Conservation Grade range of seed of native origin wildflower
seed or plants available in Ireland.
At Design By Nature we collect wildflowers from the wild and bring them back
to our nursery and growers who then grow on first generation wild plants, all
crops are then destroyed and we re-collect seed from the wild for the next
sowing of our commercial crops.
This method of Conservation is the Irish excepted standard to grow and
protect wildflowers as through our method wildflowers are kept wild and not
cultivated. This method protects the seed trigger and insures natural
All our seed products are available for testing with the Department of Agriculture,
Official Seed testing Station. tests are carried out mainly for
export for germination and phytosanitary (plant health).
All seed is harvested and cleaned by our staff in Ireland and using either
traditional methods or using the most modern seed cleaning machinery available
the our national seed house.

species, so that our seed is always vitally native, as all the seed from our
crops is only ever sourced in the wild in Ireland.
