Mission Statement:
Our mission is to be creative, free thinking wildflower growers, harvesters and seed producers, seed/plant sellers, environmental promoters and educators through the work and products, sales and services of
Design By Nature - Irish Wildflowers.
We aim through our mission statement to conserve and utilise Biodiversity and Native Irish Wild Flora, we seek to enhance this unique natural floral resource.
We seek profit not only for the well being of all our
stakeholders, directors, associates and staff, but to fuel our work of creative conservation.
Our trade requires that DBN trades with the following overriding ethical business policy.
"Guardians of our flora". (as presented and agreed with the O.P.W. in 1988 &
D.A.F. in 1992 as the
Cornflower Response):
'That a native wildflower business CONSERVES AND
UTILISES its native sources of wild plant and seed stock'.
Our aim is to promote conservation through the collection of native
species.
To put a realistic economic value on species and to promote the use of
native flora in every situation where it can be used'.
In particular DBN - Irish Wildflowers aims to keep pure the genotypes and genetic provinces of each species, so that where native wildflower species are used for serious nature conservation projects they are of native
origin and derived locally.
DBN developed a procedure of re-originating its seed stock
from the wild every 1-5 years so as to protect purity. We collect and sell
seed harvested in the wild but each year much more of our stock is nursery
grown, from wild seed.
