Species Common Name:  Wild Angelica  (not Giant Hogweed)
Species Botanical Name: Angelica sylvestris
wild_angelica_01.png (207537 bytes)

This fairly common wild flower attracts more insects than any other I know, it only flowers 'green' white, and not even a great white, its tall and some folk may not like it, but give it a try.

After year one when it flowers up to 130cm on wet undisturbed soil, get out the insect book and prepare to identify upwards of 50 species.

Management:  Allow to set seed, gap create to get established, will grow on ungrazed ground, should be an ideal roadside species. An important part of any damp or wet meadow and on poor soil will stay low enough to fit into general flora.

I consider it an outstanding plant, our sowing of this species on the Curlew Mountain by-pass. (Co. Roscommon)  is starting to spread.

If you have to delay the Wildflower meadow hay cutting to allow this plant to grow do so it's worth it.
