Sowing Instructions:
Sow wildflowers in spring between March and May or in the Autumn between Mid August and Mid September.
Sow 100% pure wildflowers at 1.5 gram per metre. 1.5 grams of seed is equal to one level teaspoon full of seed.

Broadcast the seed, by hand-sowing.  to get the feel for hand-sowing start on a floor where you measure 1 metre and trial sow one level teaspoon full.
The seed is buried out of the reach of birds but on the soil surface.

Simply rake the seeds in, just to cover them.
Rolling the seeds and keeping the seed bed firm will help greatly.

If in doubt, open our Wildflower Growers Manual or contact Design By Nature with your query.

Growing Instructions:
Contact Design By Nature - Irish  Wildflowers.

Wildflowers germinate and start to grow 6-12 weeks after sowing depending on the sowing time, soil type and flower 8 -16 weeks after sowing.
The more you cut wildflowers the better, but our mixtures can survive with one cut per year, two is best one in early spring and again the final cut in July, August or September.
Wildflower mixtures contain annuals to flower in year one, as well as biennials to flower in year two, and perennials for the long term, which only grow and start to flower from year three.
In the third year there will not be so many flowers but in year 4+ the one you have will start to grow and spread through seeding.   See cutting times

Tip;   Scarify & remove all old grass lying on the soil surface, it destroys meadows. Wild flora cannot grow if a thatch of dead grass develops over the soil. Where dead grass builds up, it covers the soil, smothers seedlings, as it rots it provides nutrients that encourage unwanted species. Scarify, as with a lawn, remove all the dead grass after cutting and removal of hay.
If in doubt, open our Wildflower Growers Manual or contact Design By Nature with your query.

Do nothing in an Irish wildflower meadow and you will ....
Do nothing in an Irish wildflower meadow & you will find beautiful wildflowers, colourful, romantic, functional plants that are far less work than mowing a lawn. Nurture your wildflowers by giving the plants the best start they can have.
In the long run it will be very rewarding and involve less work. If you grow our mixtures without grass seed an established meadow will need only one or two cuts per year. When you first sow your meadow, do nothing but enjoy the annuals as they provide a riot of summer long colour.

Cut them in September. In the second year, do even less, as biennials created over centuries by the flower fairies themselves reach for the sky in a blaze like fireworks. Eventually the meadow will settle down and evolve into a mature ecosystem filled with native species that flower over many months.

Do nothing the stress free way!
When you look into a DBN meadow you will find Yellow Rattle, Cowslip, good books, chilled drinks and brightly coloured deck chairs with 'snoozing' wildflower growers. These skilled growers will be doing all the hard work
of not, feeding, spraying or mowing the lawn! Relax and give way to nature. It's WILD.  Read more on doing nothing
