The main soil group for south Leinster is shallow acid soil, often peaty or damp.
Dublin west and North tend to have more lime in the soil and less peat, these soils are also drier.
Meath has a wide range of soil types, from sand to peat , including cley, gley and silt or loam.
Upland Leinster tends to be acid and moist, but on the coast, dry sandy and sometimes limey in places
Midland counties have a wide variety of soil types, distinguished by being either upland, lowland flooded, blanket or raised bog. The further west it tends to be acid, to the south its more alkaline.
