The main soil group for your area is shallow acid soil, often peaty or damp.
There are many different soil types in the region.
Co Sligo has a wide range of soil types, from sand to peat , including cley, gley and silt or loam.
North of Sligo, inland tends to be acid and moist, but on the coast, dry sandy and sometimes limey in places
Co Galway has very different soil types. From Galway city north to Claremorris is mainly limey (alkaline) shallow brown earth.- dry mineral soil , lowland.
West of Galway city tends to be acid and peaty.
East of Galway has a mixed bag of soil types, from acid to alkaline
Midland counties have a wide variety of soil types, distinguished by being either upland, lowland flooded, blanket or raised bog. The further north it tends to be acid, south and its more alkaline.
