Planteens
are nursery grown on a 'Mulch' or in open soil at our wildflower seed production fields
and nurseries throughout the Southeast of Ireland.
The soil is washed off field grown Planteens, so they must
be planted or 'healed-in' on arrival. Planteens are hard pruned
in roots and foliage before delivery.
Planteens are especially used for commercial planting.
Planting:
If planting into grass, pit plant as for forestry trees by turning over a 6" wide sod upside down, made a slit in the sod, (soil-side), and then plant the plant into the slit keep the crown at 1cm
below soil level. Firm when planted.
Early Maintenance: If sowing into
grass, do not let grass over-top them in the first year, it will kill them.
Cut the grass before planting and again 6 to 8 weeks later before the Planteens
starts growing. The aim is to stop the grass smothering the Planteen.
Cut again even if in Flower about july. In the second year two cuts will be
required, one in spring and again in Autumn.

Planteens are plants of less than
24 months old and are also ideal for potting on.
Some field-grown
bare rooted Planteens require weed free surrounds for the early stage of growth (6-12 weeks).
Planteens are ideal for mass-planting programs as most species are very hardy, inexpensive to produce and very cheap to send by courier or post.
We usually have thousands of Planteens available in autumn /spring.
Treat Planteens in the same way, as you would use forestry whips.
Planteens flower the following year after planting
but if planted in early spring may flower in the same season.

Planteens while not as fast to flower as plugs, are far hardier and more slug-resistant as they are
not forced by being contained or grow indoors.
