Mulch Grown 'DBN Plants'

DBN has developed a unique Growing System' for some of its plants, other are grown bare rooted in the soil in our nursery.
Mulch: A system we use to produce some our mulch grown 'DBN Plants' is unlike any other nursery, our mulch grown soil free plants have been used in Kew Garden, Biodiversity Garden, In Mary Reynolds's 'Sanctuary' Irish Chelsea gold medal Garden and the New York Irish Hunger Memorial Garden as well as in Irish wildflower growers own great gardens in Ireland
Our 'Mulch' system also allows us to lift plants late into May & deliver these plants by post, as there is no soil to shake off. Plants are delivered in bags so the plant's root system remains moist & intact when we post it. 'DBN Plants' grown on a 'mulch' of paper covered with a deep layer of straw. Our plants can be lifted at any time except in severe drought or frost. This unique system provides well rooted, inexpensive plants (usually half the price of herbaceous species). Mulch grown plants are also more Slug and frost hardy.
'DBN Plants' when planted into a warm soil shoot away and get hardy fast.
Design By Nature's Plants are between 12-24 months old & ready to flower.
Mulching	DBN Plants' are grown on a 'mulch' of paper covered with a deep layer of straw. The plants main root rarely touches the soil underneath the thick layers of paper. We use 'mulching' to encourage a plant's root system to send its white roots into the decaying straw and down to the paper to drink.
The 'DBN Plant' range includes woodland, wetland and meadow wildflowers. In the nursery mulching reduces labour and the need to water completely and cuts down on weeding and the need to put plants in pots. Production costs are less so we can pass on these savings to you our customer. 'DBN Plants' are pruned hard back before shipping. As DBN plants have a fibrous root system few of our straw grown plants suffer 'check' when lifted or planted out of season. We grow a few exacting species, which have to be grown on soil or sand they will 'check' slightly when lifted out of the growing season. Minimum order: 100 plants, 10 plants of any one species.
