Patio Wildflowers and Planters

Patios are ideal places in which to situate and grow wildflowers. Especially in between the paving. Species to use are Trefoil, Selfheal, Welsh Poppy, Chamomile, Corn Poppy, Creeping  Mint and the deliciously scented Wild Thyme. On planters surrounding the patio use creeping species such as Kidney Vetch, Greater Trefoil, Ladies Bedstraw, Sea Mayweed and Ragged Robin. Drought tolerant wild flowers are ideal for planters.

Remember not to use fertile soil when filling your planters or troughs.

Tubs and Pots

Tubs and pots can be filled with a low fertility growing medium. Drought tolerating species need drainage while moisture loving species require no drainage and a saucer to contain the water at the bottom. Wildflowers can be planted in collections. Sandro get photos of Denise's pots of wild flowers.

Planting instructions for tubs and pots:

Always use a tall upright wildflower at the back. Species include Mullein, Foxglove, Field Scabious and Bedstraw which will grow tall in a tub. The following species can be used around the edges of the tubs and pots Kidney Vetch, Greater Trefoil, Ladies Bedstraw, Sea Mayweed and Ragged Robin. You can fill the intervening spaces between tall and the edging plants with Marjoram, Hypericum, Devils Bit Scabious, Yarrow or Water Avens.

Herbal Planter

Much has been written about herbal plants and we don't feel we need to cover it here however we suggest that wild flowers, the ancestors of all herbs are ideal and many are strongly scented.
